After graduation from the University of Guelph in 1988 with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Political Science, Tom began his career as a mortgage consultant in the Oakville/Mississauga area. He was involved in the opening of the very first Mortgage Centre franchise in Canada, which has now grown to over 100 franchises coast to coast.
Funding consistently over 100 Million annually while maintaining above industry standard approval and funding ratios, Tom is recognized as one of Canada’s Top Mortgage Consultants. He has conducted numerous training sessions at brokerage houses throughout Canada and teaches Introductory Mortgage Finance for Dufferin Peel Catholic School Board. In addition, Tom has consulted for Price Waterhouse Coopers in strategic plan development relating to changes in Canada’s Mortgage Industry.
Tom has been an active member of the Broker Advisory Council for both MCAP Mortgage Corporation (since its’ inception) and FirstLine Mortgages. Recently Tom was appointed to the very first Genworth Financial Corporation advisory board. He has also appeared on, or been quoted in, various media related to Mortgage Finance. As a passionate supporter of education and in an effort to give back to the industry, Tom is committed to sharing his experiences, techniques and vision with brokers, lenders and insurers across Canada.
With 20 years in the mortgage business Tom attributes his success to the strong family support of his wife Denise and their two children, Ashley and Joshua. Tom also wishes to recognize the efforts and dedication of his full-time assistant, Kevin Macklem, as an essential contributor to his success.
